Baby Update!

I have some time here, while mom and baby are sleeping, to post another baby update. Things are sailing right along. Kristen and I were both expecting things to be a whole lot more difficult right from the beginning. In truth, it has been a very smooth ride to this point. Addison sleeps pretty good at night, going about 3 hours between feedings (that being the start of one to the start of the next). She’s breastfeeding at this point so there isn’t a whole lot for me to help out with. I’ve changed a few diapers in the whee hours of the morning (pun intended), but that’s pretty much it.

Addison’s weight gain is right on track. She’s gained 9 ounces since Monday and now tips the scale at 6 pounds 8 ounces. That works out to roughly 2 ounces a day. I figure at this pace, by age 10 she’ll weigh 456.25 pounds. :)

More baby pictures are posted constantly. Keep checking back for more. In just one week there’s over forty pictures of her. Keeping with my previous calculations, by age 10 we should have 20,800 pictures posted. Hopefully by then we’ll have computer interfaces akin to those in Minority Report which would make managing such a ridiculous number of pictures a piece of cake. I figure the Nintendo Wii has us halfway there already.

I do nice work

Kristen and I are officially parents. Little Addison Leigh Gensler was born last Wednesday, March 21st, at 1:39pm. She was a giant, tipping the scales at an impressive 6lbs 4ozs with a length of 18.5 inches. :) Both mom and baby are doing well. We’ve got a bunch of pictures posted in the gallery, here’s a quick link to get there:

We came home from the hospital on Friday with her weighing 5lbs 13ozs. She was also a little jaundiced as well. The next morning was the first pediatricians appointment and she was down to 5lbs 8ozs, 11% of her birthweight. The doctor decided that until the breast milk came in that we had to supplement her feedings with a little formula. We followed up with the doctor the next day and her weight was up 5ozs to 5lbs 13ozs again. Another follow up today and she’s now 5lbs 15.5ozs. Shes growing like a weed!

She’s been introduced to all the pets. The general consensus on the part of the animals is a mild curiosity. Ruthie couldn’t care less, Dakota is hoping for something new to rub her face on, and Savanna comes running anytime Addison starts crying.

All in all everything is going well. I’ve changed some pretty nasty diapers already and I hear things get a lot worse before they get better. I’m shooting to have her potty trained by 3 months :)
