Dentist

I hate the dentist. I have a hard time remembering the value of letting some scratch away at my teeth and gums for an hour. Un-medicated childbirth, no problem, I would do it again in a heartbeat but tell me I have to go to the dentist and all you’ll hear for a month before hand is how much I don’t want to go. But alas, after 3 years of not going, I figured it was time (that and Adam made an appointment for me whether I liked it or not). So today was the dreaded day. I survived and it wasn’t as bad as I anticipated, it never is, but in another 6 months again you will hear “I don’t want to go to the dentist.” The good news is that even after 3 years of not going I only had one small cavity and the idea of getting a filling doesn’t bother me nearly as much as a cleaning. Crazy, I know.

Aside from the dentist life has been chugging along here in North Carolina. Addie is 5 1/2 months old now and still learning something new every day. Her latest and greatest trick is sitting up by herself. Most of the time it is just for a few seconds before she gets distracted and topples herself over but it is sitting alone none-the-less. She is also starting to scoot herself backwards which worries me because that means soon she will be scooting herself forward. And from there it is all downhill…crawling, walking, running, climbing and nothing is safe. Given her personality and what I’ve heard about her father’s infant and toddler years I am figuring she will give us a run for our money.

We just got home last night from New York and visiting Mema and Pops. We all had a good time and it was nice to get away from things here for a while. After an all-night drive Friday night (since Miss Addie isn’t real big on car trips) we all spent Saturday catching up. Then Sunday, Monday and Tuesday we went to Adam’s parents cabin/camp. It was fun to be up in the middle of the woods again for a while, relax and leave the world behind. Adam, Addie and I slept in a tent while we were there despite the fact that they have a perfectly good cabin with walls all around and mattresses and cots to sleep on. In the end it was me who wanted to sleep in a tent (easier to sleep next to Addie and with the whole breastfeeding thing) but I told Adam he was more than welcome to sleep in the cabin and not to feel guilty about leaving his wife and daughter alone outside in the tent…so he slept with us. :)

Once we got back to the bustling metropolis that is Ballston Spa we just hung out, relaxed and visited with friends and family. On Saturday Adam’s mom hosted a get-together at their house so we could see everyone and everyone could meet Addie. She did a GREAT job! I was worried she would be spent by the time Saturday rolled around be she hung in their like a little trooper. We got to put her next to her cousin Tanner who is 3 months older than her and several pounds heavier. Then she got passed around for a while and had smiles for most of the arms she went into.

Sunday was a day of preparation for another 12 hour drive home that night. When we arrived home Monday morning we were exhausted (well, not Addie, she slept the whole way in the car). But our new shutters were on the house and the cats survived without making too much of a mess so all was well upon our arrival. We’re still catching up today and unpacking. We seem to have gotten a little bit of a cold somewhere along our journey which is slowing us down a bit but we’re plugging away at it.

Well, I think that sums up our lives down here for the moment. Hope all is well in your world, keep us posted!
