Smarty Pants

We always hoped Addie would be smart.  What parent wouldn’t want that for their child?  But we never planned on her outsmarting us at 19 months old.

This morning while I was taking a shower Addie was playing in her “Addie-pen” (hallway with a gate at each end).  When I got out of the shower she came over to the gate and held up an outlet cover.  Hmmm…maybe I just left one off when I was ironing this weekend and it got kicked under the gate*.  And then she held up a second one!  I know I didn’t leave two of them out!  I got dried off and poked my head out into the hall and sure enough she got them out of the outlet!  We can barely get them out of the outlets!!!  So tomorrow we’re off to Target and Babies R Us to try and find different outlet covers.

*Just to clarify – I was ironing for part of Addie’s costume not because I actually iron clothes.

The Benefits of a Small Child

You get more than one season out of their clothes!  I have at least 2 pairs of jeans that Addie is wearing this year that she wore last fall, a pair of overalls, her winter coat, two lighter weight jackets, and she’s been wearing the same shoes for 7 months now! And that’s even with the switch to cloth diapers (not that it affects the jacket or shoes).  Assuming she’s out of diapers by next fall maybe we’ll get three years out of her clothes!  :)

That’s right.  That means Addie still fits into some 9 month pants, pretty much all of her 12 month pants and swims in 18 months.  We put a pair of 18 month jeans on her yesterday since everything else was in the wash and you could pull them up to her armpits.  lol  Guess she didn’t get our dad’s height genes.

Hugs

Apparently Addie thinks I’m a sucker (wonder why?).

Her newest trick is to give me a hug whenever I’m going to make her do something she doesn’t want it like get in her carseat.  When she was really little she used to get all snuggly in her pack whenever we walked to the car now she gives me a big hug when I’m ready to put her in.  Eventually she lets go only to give me another hug when I tell her thanks for the hug but its time to get in the seat.  And this continues until I end the hug and just put her in.

Then this morning when she was supposed to be getting her teeth brush she kept sliding herself onto my lap and hugging me.  As soon as I tried to put the toothbrush in her mouth she’d give me another hug.  We did eventually get them brushed though.

Although she is just prolonging the inevitable I’ll be the sucker any day.

Kids Towne

Today we held our weekly play date at a park in Apex called “Kids Towne.”  It was a pretty nice park!  Lots of wooden climbing structures, bridges, slides, swings and sand.  What more could a kid want?

In addition to the new Addie pictures (19 months?  When did that happen!) there are others under Adventures in North Carolina -> Play Date 10/22/2008.  The ones that have Addie are duplicated but there are a bunch of her cute friends Isaac and Katy too!
