I forgot how little you do at a regular appointment this early in the baby game so this will be a short update.
Baby seems just fine. Heart rate in the 150s. I got permission to ride my bike. And that’s about it. lol

baby!
We had our “big” ultrasound today. Since we aren’t finding out the sex I don’t have a whole lot of news to share. Everything looked good according to the tech and a doctor who came in just to tell us that everything looked good. When she first started he/she was all curled up into a tiny ball making it really hard for her to get some of the measurements. She had me flip to my left side, she’d push on my stomach, flip to the right, etc to try and get him/her to stretch out but baby was not interested in cooperating. Finally he/she did stretch out so she could get the measurements she needed. The nice thing about an uncooperative baby is that it takes longer so you get to see more.
At one point we got a good view of the face with his/her hand right near the mouth. The baby kept opening its mouth trying to get its thumb in there. It is crazy all the things they do in there and everything that technology allows us to see. You could see the chambers of the heart, the kidneys (not that we’d have known had she not told us), various parts of the brain and of course fingers, toes, eyes, mouth and nose. And Addie’s favorite part…BUTT! lol
The heartbeat was 148 which is less than Addie’s was but still in girl range for the old wives tale. All in all it went well and hopefully this will be the last time we see him/her until he/she is born!
Addie has never been a good napped but at least when she wasn’t sleeping she was contained. But that all changed last week.
Last Thursday I was sitting on the couch reading a few webpages before I finished preparing for Adam’s parents visit when I heard some little feet run down the hallway. Around here hearing someone or something run down the hallway isn’t uncommon so I got up to see if it was a cat, dog or small human. Before I could even get up I heard “Hi! Down.” from behind me. Sure enough, it was human! Apparently Addie had figured out how to get out of her bed without crashing to the floor as she had done previously. Fantastic.
Thursday night she went to bed fine but Friday nap she escaped again. But at least she was staying in her room for at least an hour before escaping. Unfortunately that didn’t last long. The past few days I have spent an hour to an hour and a half returning her to her room approximately every 3 minutes. Somehow this sort of “nap” isn’t nearly as relaxing for either of us as the sleeping variety of nap.
I do have to admit though that she can be rather crafty. At first she’d quietly sneak down the stairs and shyly peak around the corner to see if she was going to be in trouble for coming down. Then she’d come out of her room and when she heard me coming up the stairs to send her back she’d turn around, run in and close the door behind her like I might not notice. And now today she came out of her room and went into our room but closed the door behind her so when I peeked up the stairs it looked like she was still in her room. Sneaky child!
I don’t care so much if she naps but she needs some quiet rest time just as much as I need some quiet rest time. Our new rule is that she can get out of her bed but she needs to stay in her room until Adam or myself says she can come out. So far staying in isn’t really happening. But because I am looking in her room every few minutes when I return her at least I know that I need to put every article of clothing she owns back in the dresser when her rest time is over.
Oh well…we knew this day was coming we just hoped to put it off until summer. Now we have to go find her a big girl bed and patiently teach her to stay in her room for her rest times. I’m pretty sure finding the big girl bed will be easy.
And as much as I dislike our new “nap” routine I love that in the mornings she come and stands in our doorway and says “HI!” Morning greetings don’t get much better than that!
You may have already noticed the “Addison” album in the photo gallery has been renamed kids. I decided that with another one on the way this year now was a good time to reorganize things to make them more 2 kid friendly.
Pretty simple…the Addison album has turned into “Kids”. There will be no “Year 3″ album for Addie and instead just a 2009 album. Since I wanted to finish out her “Year 2″ album “Year 3″ is going to start in March…from her birthday forward. Each month will get it’s own album. And instead of numbering pictures “Addie001″ they will all just be a number. That saves me from having “Addie001″, “Baby001″ and “AddieandBaby001″ come September.
You guys are all smart folks and I’m sure it won’t even phase you but I wanted to let you know why I was changing things up now.
Addie started her first day of gymnastics today. When we first got there they had a few trampolines set up, a big tunnel, and a slide set up. Addie immediately went for the trampolines and didn’t want to get off.
Once they started the more structured part of the class where she had to be in a circle doing some songs she wasn’t as interested in the class. Next the teacher rolled a ball to each of the kids, one at a time, saying good morning to them and the kid had to roll the ball back. Addie got the ball and wouldn’t let go. Finally I got it away from her and we got it rolled back.
But then out came the parachute and all was well again. She had a blast running under it and then they took turns sitting in the middle while the others shook it.
After circle time they set up an “obstacle course” for the kids to go around. It started with a tunnel to crawl through, then a trampoline, a balance bean (on the floor), another trampoline, a big squishy thing to climb over, another trampoline (lol I must not have the only kid that likes to jump!), a bar to swing on with the help of the parents and teacher, a ramp and mats to climb up, a slide, a hopscotch rug, and finally two hoops to throw bean bags into. Then do it all over! All in all she had a good time and I’m looking forward to our next class!
