Apparently I’ve been gone too long. Adam and I were talking on instant messenger this evening and I told him this baby gets the hiccups a lot. His response was “What baby?”

Yes, that’s right. Those “wonderful” men and women we have protecting our skies from all the bad people made my daughter cry.
When we left Raleigh on Friday she was holding her baby and didn’t want me to put it in my carry on bag. As we got to security I realized they would make us put him in the bin and send him through the x-ray scanner. So we got him in there and she was fine when she could see him but as soon as we had to walk through the metal detector and the bin was in the scanner she was not happy. Well, as all things do, the bin finally came out and she was excited to see her baby and I told her as soon as the bin got to us she could have him back. Of course I hadn’t counted on TSA saying “Is this yours? We need to recheck it.” Really guys? At this point Addie started to cry and bury her head on my shoulder because this guy just took her baby and sent him back through the scanner. But I kept explaining that he’d come back out and we’d get him next time the bin came out. And they managed to make a liar out of me twice! When the bin came out of the x-ray a second time the TSA guy picked up the baby and said “Is this your doll? We need to run a test on him.” WHAT?!?! At this point Addie was none-to-happy to see her baby being picked up by this guy and having him walk away. And neither was I! So they ran their little test and we finally got the baby back.
Then they needed to check her cup because I had put juice in it to make sure she’d drink something during take-off. Luckily they only took the cup once but by this time I had the laptop out, my camera out, baby out, the cup out, a bunch of misc. things out so they could get the cup out, and of course neither of us had shoes on. Now, anybody who knows Addie knows that just putting her down was not an option if I wanted her on the same plane as me. She’d have taken off across the airport in a heartbeat! I nicely asked the guy if I could set her on the table that had all my stuff spread out on it so I could get the things back in my bag and the response I got was a resounding “No!” *sigh* Fine. We’ll just stand here and struggle to get ourselves back together.
The good news is though, we made it! And we learned a valuable lesson. Put baby in the bag through security and don’t fly with juice. Besides, I’m sure the skies are much safer now that we know Addie’s baby is not being used for trafficing drugs or as part of a large terror plot.
I know I have been a super slacker about pictures! But as of this exact moment I am caught up!! I’ll try and stay that way until we leave for MN next week….then I’ll have to play catch up all over again when we get home.
