Since my last post was Christmas lists’ it appears that it has been a while since I’ve written thing. I guess I’m a blogging failure.
Christmas was wonderful! Addie was so much fun getting ready for Santa, making reindeer food to sprinkle outside for the reindeer, getting her gifts from the elves on Christmas eve and being all excited about Santa on Christmas day. Although, I have to say that I think she is the only 2 1/2 year old who was convinced that Santa wouldn’t fit down our chimney and that we needed a new one. Sure, no problem.
The other highlight was Christmas morning when she told me that I couldn’t have any of the presents under the tree because they were all hers! I thought I had it on video but apparently pushed the wrong button (oops!).
New Year’s Day we left (at 6am!) for Minnesota. The frozen tundra. Seriously. We left our house at 4:15am and the thermometer in the van said 42 degrees. When we landed at 8am in Minneapolis it was a balmy 1 degree above zero. If I’d have known that was the warmest temperature I’d see for the next 10 days I would have spent the day outside! Unfortunately it was too cold most of our trip for Addie to play outside. So we did lots of fun inside things instead. But one day it did warm up to 15 so we got her all bundled up and sent her out with Grandma to play. She lasted about 10 minutes.
My dad’s wedding was very nice! It was great to see the whole Johnson family. I haven’t seen everybody in a long long time. Addie was adorable (I’m sure you’re surprised) and relatively well behaved considering the LONG day we had on Friday and the late night at the wedding. And the number of M&Ms she ate. They had a candy bar set up with M&Ms, chocolate covered peanuts and a few other things set up. Great for anyone who has some self restraint. Turns out Addie is not one of those people. I’m pretty sure she ate at least an entire BIG bag of M&Ms. Not the big bags you get in the check out lines, the big bags you find in the candy aisle that you fill candy dishes with. Then she threw up. On her pretty pink dress. *sigh* So we changed her into PJs and she ran around like that until she got hot and decided to streak across the dance floor! There were an awful lot of camera flashes so I hope someone got a good picture of her!
Other than that we hung out with friends and family, went to the Children’s Museum, checked out Underwater World at the Mall of America, and went to an indoor playground with some of my friends and their little ones. All in all it was a good trip!
That said…I will never travel with a 3 month old again. It messes with their sleep too much and we’re still recovering. This is the age that Addie got all goofed up and we’re still recovering from that too. So far I think Piper will be a bit easier. My biggest problem with her sleeping is that she is sooo different from Addie! We were discussing what we needed to do to get her re-adjusted and Adam made the comment that he thought I was holding her too much. Turns out, I think that was a big part of the problem. When Addie was itty-bitty she wanted (needed?) to be parented to sleep somehow. Piper just wants to be put down she can go to sleep. When you put Piper down to sleep she cries little “I’m giving in” cries. When you put Addie down at this age she WAILED as though you were hanging her by her toes in her crib. So we’re working on the sleep thing.
Pipes had her 4 month appointment on Monday the 18th. She was 24 1/2″ long (60%), weighed 13lbs 2oz (50%) and her head circumference was 15 3/4″ (25%). For reference Addie was 23 1/2″ long (25%), 13lbs 3 1/2oz (50%) and her head circumference was 16 1/4″ (50%). Yes, you read that right. Addie weighed more at 4 months than Piper does! Could be because she spent most of the nights from 3 months to 4 months eating instead of sleeping like she should have been. It will be interesting to see what happens with Piper’s 6 month appointment. He said she looked perfect. Said she’ll probably be an early crawler as she was pusher herself around on the exam table (not how I ordered this one!). We can start “solids” anytime we’re ready but I’m in no hurry.
That’s about all that is new around here.
